John joined Hovey Williams in 1972 after completing law school and receiving his Juris Doctor degree. Today, he works in the firm's patent prosecution practice, as well as client counseling in all areas of intellectual property. John's specialties include patent prosecution, trade secrets, and licensing. His current work primarily focuses on extrusion technology, pharmaceutical chemistry, magnetic induction heating technology, and the full spectrum of mechanical and chemical arts.

Over the years, John has developed a wide range of expertise in his field, enabling him to provide clients with first-rate service and results. In one instance, he won a summary judgment in a patent case directed to bagging technology, which was upheld by the Federal Circuit. John also served as the lead IP counsel in a trial concerning IP and contract issues, leading to a favorable jury verdict for his client. Beyond his experience in the court room, he previously shared his knowledge during a conference in Bilbao, Spain where he spoke on the patenting of genes and related subjects. John's paper on the topic was later published as a part of proceedings. John attributes his success to a number of personal qualities and service philosophies, including his commitment to clients, technical and legal expertise, and ability to quickly grasp the essentials of new technologies. In his day-to-day client activity, he strives to continually deliver value by providing prompt, responsive attention. John was reared in the Kansas City area. He and his wife married in 1976, and together they have one son. While away from the office, John enjoys expanding his knowledge-base by studying the history of science, particularly 20th Century physics.
