Michael Elbein
Mike joined the Hovey Williams team in 2003. He specializes in the areas of trademark, copyright, unfair competition, trade secret law, and IP litigation. Mike’s practice includes trademark and copyright registration, litigation before the courts and the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and licensing of intellectual property.
After practicing criminal law and civil litigation for several years, Mike started taking some trademark counterfeiting cases. Gradually, more of his practice related to intellectual property until it became his full-time activity. Mike was involved in the defense of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its licensee over the use of the trademark MARCH MADNESS, which the Illinois High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) claimed infringed its mark. The case was named Trademark Case of the Year by a leading trademark journal.
