Tracy L. Bornman

Tracy joined Hovey Williams after earning her Juris Doctor degree in 1997. She currently serves as a partner of the firm and practices in all areas of patent law. Specifically, Tracy specializes in foreign and domestic chemical and biological patent preparation and prosecution; preparation of patentability and non-infringement opinions; negotiation and preparation of licensing and joint development agreements; and trademark preparation and prosecution.

Though it was not originally Tracy’s intention to pursue a career in patent law, she was introduced to the intellectual property field during law school. After taking a course and earning the highest grade in the class, she was encouraged to get more involved in patent law by her professor, a partner of an IP law firm in Des Moines, Iowa. Following his advice, Tracy took more patent law classes and, upon graduation, sat for the patent bar.
