Hovey Williams Celebrates 80th Anniversary

Overland Park, KS—This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Kansas City area-based intellectual property (IP) law firm of Hovey Williams LLP.

Eight decades following the firm’s inception in 1929, Hovey Williams maintains its position as a leading IP law firm not only in the Kansas City region, but nationally and internationally, as well.  The firm’s lasting success is a product of its perpetual commitment to meeting the ever-changing needs of its clients.  In 2009 alone, Hovey Williams introduced its new website (http://www.hoveywilliams.com) and announced its decision to freeze all partner and senior associate billing rates for the year to offer clients financial relief during the current recession.

“80 years is an extraordinary accomplishment for our firm,” says Stephen D. Timmons, Partner of Hovey Williams.  “Our success and longevity are attributable to the governing values on which we were established, as well as our dedicated attorneys and support staff who strive to provide the highest quality service to our clients each and every day.”

Hovey Williams was founded by C. Earl Hovey and Roy Hamilton just four weeks before the most devastating stock market crash in U.S. history and the triggering of the Great Depression. Together the two entrepreneurs were able to not only endure the difficult economic era, but to grow the firm into a successful, thriving practice with specialties in patent, trademark, and copyright law.

“The founders of this firm were highly skilled in all areas of intellectual property law and we are proud to have maintained that high level of expertise and diversity in IP practice,” continues Timmons.  “As an independent IP boutique firm, Hovey Williams is able to continually provide sophisticated services at reasonable rates – traits that many companies are finding even more attractive in today’s business climate.”

Hovey Williams has been engaged in the practice of IP law under its current name, Hovey Williams LLP, since 2002.  The firm previously held the designations of Hovey, Williams, Timmons, & Collins (1988-2002), Schmidt, Johnson, Hovey & Williams (1959-1988), and the Law Offices of C. Earl Hovey (1929-1959).

Hovey Williams LLP is an intellectual property law firm specializing in patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secret, and IP litigation.  The firm’s practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office includes patent and trademark prosecution, appeals, oppositions, cancellations, and interferences.  In addition, Hovey Williams has appeared before the United States Supreme Court, regional Courts of Appeal, the Federal Circuit for patent cases, and state courts.  The firm comprises more than 20 attorneys and patent agents, including 12 partners.  For more information about Hovey Williams, visit http://www.hoveywilliams.com.
