Although, it has been commonplace for businesses to use “Co.” to signify corporate status, the most widely-used top level domain (TLD) for companies has been “.com”.  This derives from the “dot-com” era, where the TLD was meant to indicate only websites of general commercial character.  In the coming weeks, however, the “.co” TLD is opening up for worldwide registration and will offer companies another marketing option.

On March 22, 2010, the Federal Circuit issued its 9-2 en banc opinion deciding Ariad Pharmaceuticals, Inc. v.  Eli Lilly & Company.  After hearing oral arguments and wading through 25 amicus briefs, the court confirmed that the written description requirement is a separate and distinct condition for patentability.
