Denise joined Hovey Williams as a clerk in 2018 and became a registered patent attorney in 2022. Her practice focuses on U.S. and foreign patent matters in the areas of biotechnology and chemistry. During law school, she received the Samuel Mellinger Scholarship, Leadership, and Service Award, which is given to the student who has most distinguished him or herself in the combined areas of scholarship, leadership, and service. Denise was also the first woman of color to serve as the Editor-in-Chief of the Kansas Journal of Law & Public Policy, where she created the publication's new online supplement. In addition to her time on the Journal, Denise externed for Judge Julie Robinson, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. Denise also was a Shook Hardy & Bacon Scholar, a teaching assistant for lawyering skills classes, and an intellectual property research assistant to Professor Andrew Torrance. As an undergraduate, Denise interned for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - Region 7.
