Randall's intellectual property law practice specializes in the preparation and prosecution of utility and design patent applications. He also counsels clients about securing protection under multiple intellectual property regimes, including utility patents, design patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Randall serves clients across a diverse range of technological fields, including consumer products, agricultural equipment, medical devices, turbomachinery, the oil and gas industry, aircraft, and specialized manufacturing systems.

In his time at the firm, Randall's patent-focused experience also includes the filing and prosecution of appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, prosecution of foreign patents, preparation of patent opinions, preparation and prosecution of U.S. reissue patent applications, and inter partes review proceedings before the Board. He also advises clients on intellectual property agreements. Randall joined Hovey Williams in 2005.

As a graduate research assistant in mechanical engineering, Randall played a central role in the founding of the National Gas Machinery Laboratory (NGML) at Kansas State University. The NGML, one of the university's most successful institutes, develops practical, cost-effective solutions for the natural gas transmission industry.

Randall's interest and inspiration in patent law can be attributed to his father, who was chosen as a national semifinalist in the History Channel's 2006 "Invent Now" competition.
