
Jim Jesse Of Counsel
Jim Jesse brings a unique blend of legal expertise and creative passion to Hovey Williams as Of Counsel. With more than 30 years of experience as an attorney, Jim is nationally recognized for his work in music copyright law and intellectual property. He is the founder of Rock N’ Roll Law, where he develops and delivers engaging Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs that has brought music law to life for thousands of attorneys across the country.
Before launching Rock N’ Roll Law, Jim served as General Counsel for Cool Music Network (THE COOL TV), a 24-hour music video television network.
Jim is also a singer-songwriter and music historian, having released several albums and authored two books, including The Music Copyright Law Manual (3d ed.) and The Musician’s Guide to Music Copyright Law (2d ed.) He holds a B.S. in Business with a minor in Political Science from the University of Kansas, and earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He is admitted to practice law in Kansas.
At Hovey Williams, Jim continues to support clients with deep insight into the intersection of law and the creative arts. His practice focuses on copyright law, licensing, and entertainment law, with a particular emphasis on the music industry.
