World Intellectual Property Day is April 26, 2018

On April 26 each year, WIPO, the World Intellectual Property Organization, celebrates World Intellectual Property Day. According to its webpage about the occasion, it offers a “unique opportunity each year to join with others around the globe to consider how IP contributes to the flourishing of music and the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world.” 

Does Marvin Gaye family victory "blur the lines" of copyright?

On March 21, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit upheld significant parts of a trial court opinion that awarded $5.3 million to Marvin Gaye's children. Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams were found to have infringed on Gaye's 1977 song "Got to Give It Up" in their 2013 song "Blurred Lines."
