Mike specializes in the areas of trademark, copyright, unfair competition, trade secret law, IP licensing and IP litigation. Mike's practice includes trademark and copyright registration, litigation before the courts and the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, domain name issues, and licensing of intellectual property. He joined the Hovey Williams team in 2003.

Mike has advised companies and organizations of all sizes as well as individuals in a variety of matters involving trademark and copyright clearance, registration, licensing, policing and enforcement, allegations of deceptive or unfair advertising and marketing practices, and unfair competition.

Mike was involved in the defense of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its licensee over the use of the trademark MARCH MADNESS, which the Illinois High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) claimed infringed its mark. The case was named Trademark Case of the Year by a leading trademark journal.
